Taqyees: Legal Metrology helps Facilitate International Trade in Conformity With International Standards.

Asharqia Chamber, represented by the Commercial Committee, held a workshop that outlined the topic of Legal Metrology services "Taqyees" for manufacturers, importers and users of measuring devices, on Monday evening, February 1, 2021.

During the workshop, Engineer Aws Al-Qurashi - Senior Metrological Engineer - from the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization spoke about calibration, which has become involved in most aspects of daily life like commercial, economic, industrial, environmental and health activities, through the uses of devices and various measuring tools in these areas, and take critical and important decisions based on the measurement results shown by these measuring devices.

During the workshop, which was moderated by a member of the Commercial Committee, Muhammad Al-Majdouie, Al-Qurashi explained that Legal Metrology is part of the calibration related to measurement units, methods and devices, with regard to the technical and legal requirements that are binding to ensure general protection, in terms of safety and appropriate measurement accuracy, pointing to its importance, which is accurate reading, and their compliance with international specifications and recommendations, facilitating international trade in compliance with international standards, and the presence of a neutral body to ensure the accuracy of readings, as well as achieving the required trading justice.

Al-Qurashi said that the National Program for Standardization and Calibration "Taqyees" is one of the initiatives of the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization within the National Transformation Program 2020, which aims to verify legal measurement devices with standard specifications to ensure the correctness of sold quantities by conducting technical examinations and field verification, such as fuel pumps and commercial scales. Electricity and water meters.

On his part, Eng. Abdulaziz Al-Jaber, Senior Metrological Engineer, drew attention to the measured commercial transactions, which are the buying and selling of goods and services that require a measurement process to determine their value. He also indicated that legal standards are applied to the devices used in commercial transactions, such as: electricity and gas meters, water meters, scales, and pumps. fuel, in order to protect the seller and the buyer.

Al-Jaber talked about the requirements for new devices, which require that the measuring device must hold a National Type Approval Certificate, hold the initial verification label, and that the measurement device's accuracy class is appropriate for the activity it is used for.

Al-Jaber explained that the owners of the establishments must submit a request for periodic or initial verification of the measuring devices used in commercial exchanges and that the device obtain an acceptable label, and also make sure, before purchasing the device, that it has obtained a National Type Approval Certificate in addition to the initial verification label, and finally ensure the validity of the label on the measuring device.
